DTN's hypothetical Neeley Biofuels plant in South Dakota reported its net-profit margin rose from 4 cents to 9.4 cents per gallon since July 13. The plant paid $3.25 per bushel for corn, down from $3.80 in May, and received $112 per ton for DDGS.
Most real ethanol plants are not paying debt and would earn about 41 cents per gallon.
Cheaper corn is the main driver of better ethanol margins, which supports plant operating rates and corn demand. DDGS prices are slipping slightly, which limits co-product support.
