An opinion column opposes a congressional proposal to raise the USDA Commodity Credit Corporation's annual spending authority from $30 billion to $68 billion. It notes the CCC has exceeded its limit only under the Trump administration's trade aid payments.
A higher CCC spending cap would give USDA more room to fund farm aid and trade-related payments, which could sustain production. The proposal is still pending, so its price effect is small for now.
