The Panama Canal extended its temporary relief measures, including suspended advance payments on transit reservation fees, through December 31, 2020, instead of the original September 1 end date. The canal said container traffic is recovering while transits climbed from 845 in June to 933 in July.
Extended customer relief supports steady container and bulk routing through the canal, which keeps ocean freight costs for US-Asia grain and feed flows from tightening further.
