Vietnamese rice export prices eased this week as the Philippines halted purchases and the autumn-winter harvest began in the Mekong Delta. Five percent broken rice fell to $470-475 a tonne from $485-490 a week earlier, and traders expect further declines as the harvest peaks in October.
Harvest pressure and reduced Philippine demand add supply to the export market, which pushes Asian rice benchmarks lower. Buyers can expect cheaper Vietnamese rice through the harvest period.
