Peru's anchovy fishery, the world's largest single-stock fishery at 3-4 million tonnes a year, is monitored with satellite vessel tracking and e-logbooks. The Fisheries Ministry uses real-time catch data to open or close zones, and about 700 industrial vessels carry the monitoring terminals.
Active zone closures under this management system can cut or delay anchovy catches, which tightens fishmeal and fish oil supply. The article describes an existing management framework rather than a new change, so the price impact is limited.
