Negotiated cash fed cattle prices were mainly steady to lower in the week ending October 30, with Nebraska live trades at $106 and five-area steer prices averaging $104.16 live, down $7.75 from a year earlier. Choice boxed beef rose 78 cents to $208.10, and weekly cattle slaughter of 638,000 head was 3.2% below the prior year.
Lower slaughter and firm boxed beef support the carcass value, but year-over-year cash prices remain well below last year, keeping feedlot margins under pressure.
