IFFO reported that fishmeal production in the first eight months of 2020 fell about 2.5% year on year and fish oil output fell about 3%, with drops in Peru, the USA and India. August landings were higher in Northern Europe but lower in Peru, Chile, South Africa and India.
Typhoons and military exercises in China also disrupted fishmeal output.
Lower fishmeal and fish oil supply from major producers supports prices for fishmeal used in aquafeed and livestock rations, although the market has been subdued until a recent pickup in September demand.
