Evonik plans to consolidate its DL-methionine (MetAMINO) production into three world-scale hubs in the Americas, Europe and Asia. It will close its smallest plant, a 65,000 tons-per-year facility in Wesseling, Germany, by the end of Q1 2021.
The company will also invest about €25 million in upgrading methionine intermediates at Wesseling.
Removing 65,000 tons per year of methionine capacity tightens global supply at the margin. Lower costs at the remaining hubs may partly offset this over time.
