Francisco Sagasti was sworn in as Peru's interim president after Martin Vizcarra's ouster and Manuel Merino's resignation. The sol had hit a record low after Vizcarra's removal, then gained its largest daily increase in over seven months once Sagasti took office.
Peru's dollar bonds and local 10-year yields above 4% had come under pressure during the turmoil.
A firmer sol lowers the local-currency cost of Peruvian exports such as fishmeal, which is a feed protein input, so it modestly eases pressure on that supply chain. The effect on feed prices is limited unless political instability disrupts production.
