Argentina is shifting to more orthodox economic measures after heavy-handed currency restrictions failed to stop a run on the peso. In October it curbed money supply growth, raised interest rates, and pledged not to finance itself with temporary central bank advances.
Tighter policy aimed at restoring confidence could ease pressure on the peso and slow dollar demand. A steadier peso lowers the incentive for farmers to rush sales, which slightly reduces upward pressure on Argentine dollar-denominated soymeal and grain export prices.
