The South African rand weakened on Thursday as attention turned to weak economic prospects after recent credit downgrades. The rand had gained about 7% against the dollar that month, and the 2030 bond yield rose 2 basis points to 8.89%.
A weaker rand reflects domestic fiscal concerns rather than a feed-supply shift, so it has little direct effect on grain or meal prices.
