Dutch authorities ordered culls of about 200,000 chickens at two farms near Nijmegen after an H5N8 outbreak, and H5N8 was also found in chickens in Germany's Schleswig-Holstein. Further cases were reported in England, and more than 1,000 dead wild birds were found on the German coast.
Culls and containment zones in major European poultry regions reduce regional chicken supply and feed demand, supporting poultry prices and possibly raising import demand from other suppliers.
