Analysts expect the U.S. designation of Vietnam as a currency manipulator to prompt talks that could lead Vietnam to buy more U.S. goods or reduce its foreign-exchange intervention. Treasury found the dong undervalued by 4.7% in 2019, and Vietnam posted a $54.4 billion trade surplus with the U.S. that year.
If Vietnam buys more U.S. goods, purchases could include agricultural products, but any such commitments remain speculative. The effect on feed commodity prices is minor for now.
