Two north-east Scottish farming families invested £2 million in a 1,000 square metre gluten-free oat plant near Foveran in Aberdeenshire, backed by Scottish Government funding and HSBC. The facility has six growers and is designed to produce oats for more than 2.5 million portions of porridge a month.
The plant adds a small niche demand for gluten-free milling oats, which is too small to move feed or commodity oat prices.
