Large shoals of warm-water anchovies have appeared off Ireland's south-west coast, with at least 1,000 tonnes landed in the past week. Most of the catch is being trucked to fishmeal processors because there is no food market for it.
Irish landings add a small amount of fishmeal feedstock in Europe, but the volume is marginal against Peruvian and Chilean supply. The story is mainly a local fishery development with little global price effect.
