Negotiated cash fed cattle traded $3-$4 higher on a live basis in the Northern Plains at mostly $113/cwt, with dressed sales in Nebraska $5 higher at $178. Live Cattle futures closed about $1.23 lower and Feeder Cattle about $1.96 lower on Friday, even as grain futures rose.
Higher cash cattle prices and rising boxed beef values support the cattle complex, but futures weakened on month-end position squaring and firm feed costs. Feeder buyers should expect choppy price action rather than a clear trend.
