Ukrainian sunflower seed exports rose 10.5 times year on year to 148.9 thousand tonnes in September-December 2020/21. The EU took more than 114 thousand tonnes, with Bulgaria the largest buyer.
Domestic sunflower seed prices reached $770-800 per ton by late 2020, roughly two to three times export prices.
Strong export demand from the EU and Turkey draws Ukrainian seed abroad, which tightens regional supply for crushers. Domestic prices above export levels may keep seed supply restricted for crushers.
