Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and the South Louisiana Rail Facility announced an $11.6 million rice mill in Jefferson Davis Parish. The facility can handle up to 25,000 bushels of rice per hour for storage and export, with construction set to begin in September 2020.
The project is expected to create 35 jobs.
Added paddy storage and export capacity in Southwest Louisiana improves rice handling logistics but is too small to move world prices. It is a modest positive for regional rice flows.
After 49 past logistics events, Rough Rice moved a median -0.9% over 5 sessions (39% higher; middle half -2.6% to +1.1%), and +2.0% over 20.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
