Research presented by the U.S. Soybean Export Council at Commodity Classic found that crude protein is a poor measure of soy nutritional value. U.S. 2020 soybean meal had lower crude protein than 2019 but provided more energy from sugars and starch and more amino acids.
Buyers may begin valuing soybean meal on energy and amino acid content rather than protein alone, which could affect relative pricing between origins. There is no immediate change in supply or price.
