Illinois farm-level data from USDA AMS shows fertilizer prices are up across the board versus spring 2020 and fall 2020. DAP is up 57% year on year, while anhydrous ammonia and urea rose 17% and 25% respectively.
Overall fertilizer expense is about $29 per acre (30%) higher, with DAP accounting for roughly $18 of that increase.
Phosphate costs dominate the rise in input expense, which squeezes feed-grain and oilseed margins for growers and may shift acreage away from crops needing heavy phosphate use. Elevated DAP prices point to continued firmness in fertilizer markets.
