Greenpeace International's report 'Destruction: Certified' found that certification schemes for palm oil, wood and soy for animal feed have failed to prevent ecosystem destruction and human rights abuses. Three of the schemes are approved by the European Commission under the Renewable Energy Directive.
The Commission is expected to publish a draft deforestation law before summer.
Pressure on certification schemes could push the EU toward mandatory due diligence, which may restrict certified soy and palm supplies or add premiums. The effect on feed prices is indirect and depends on the final law.
