Dr. Thomas Elam of FarmEcon explained in a WATT Poultry interview that corn and soybean feed prices rose after steep production declines since the 2018/19 harvest. Feed grain ending stocks fell from 60.5 million metric tons in 2018/19 to a forecast 37.3 million, and corn stocks dropped from 2.2 billion to 1.35 billion bushels.
Tightening corn and soybean stocks with strong export demand keep feed costs elevated for poultry producers, and further volatility is likely without a strong new crop.
