Kasikornbank (KBank) forecasts the baht will weaken further against the US dollar by June 2021. The forecast cites dividend repatriation by foreign investors, with SET-listed companies expected to pay more than 18.7 billion baht in dividends during May 17-21.
KBank also points to Thailand's narrower current account surplus.
A weaker baht raises the baht cost of dollar-priced feed imports such as soybean meal and corn. Outflows from dividend payments are a near-term pressure on that currency.
