Sterling rose against the euro and dollar on May 27 after BoE MPC member Gertjan Vlieghe said a rate rise could come in early 2022 if the recovery is stronger than expected. The pound/dollar rate moved from 1.4120 to 1.4170.
Vlieghe said his central case was a later rate rise.
Expectations of earlier BoE tightening support sterling, which changes the relative cost of UK imports priced in dollars. The effect on feed commodity prices is limited.
