The USDA announced an April Federal order Class III milk price of $17.67/cwt, up $1.52 from March and the highest since November 2020. The Class IV price rose to $15.42, and the All-Milk price averaged $17.40.
Feed costs were still more than $5.00/cwt above a year earlier.
Higher Class III and IV prices strengthen dairy demand for feed, but the milk-to-feed ratio fell to 1.75, squeezing producer margins and raising the risk of reduced herd feeding and cow numbers.
After 237 past bullish report events, Milk (Class III) moved a median +0.0% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -0.3% to +0.6%), and +1.2% over 20.
