Alberta Agriculture's weekly review shows southern Alberta feed barley FOB prices rose $13 per tonne to as high as $360 per tonne for the week ending May 10. That is up $40 from late March and well above last year's $235 and the three-year average of $253.33.
Canadian barley imports into Alberta rose 123.7% year on year in the January-March period.
Rising barley prices and tightening import supply point to continued firm feed grain costs in Western Canada. Historically, prices keep climbing into mid-June, which supports values through spring.
