Nutrien will raise 2021 potash output by 500,000 tonnes, bringing total annual sales volumes to 13.8 million tonnes, on top of a similar increase announced June 7. The move follows coordinated Western sanctions on Belarus, including a ban on potash imports from state-owned Belaruskali, which produces about 20% of global supply.
Sanctions threaten a major share of seaborne potash supply, tightening global markets and supporting higher potash and fertilizer prices. Farm input costs for feed grain producers may rise into the next crop year.
