CME live cattle futures were modestly higher and feeder cattle sharply lower on June 30, 2021, with August live cattle at $122.72 and August feeders down $2.77 to $154.62. Direct cash cattle traded at $120 to $122 live in the South, and Choice boxed beef closed $1.05 higher.
Feeder cattle are pressured by higher corn costs and the cash cattle trade sets live cattle values, so feeder-cattle weakness tends to weigh on cattle-feed demand and feeder pricing.
