Ceres Global Ag Corp plans a 1.1-million-tonne canola crushing plant at Northgate, Saskatchewan. The Canadian Oilseed Processors Association welcomed the investment, and other firms have also announced new or expanded crush plants.
If all announced expansions proceed, Canada's crush capacity would rise about 52 percent to 16.7 million tonnes.
More domestic crush capacity will produce more canola meal, which is likely to add supply pressure on meal prices and could free up grain export capacity at Vancouver.
