Analyst Chuck Penner of LeftField Commodity Research expects China's barley and feed grain buying to slow in the second half of 2021. He argues the 2020 Chinese corn crop was hit by flooding, which drove the 2020-21 import surge, and forecasts Canadian barley carryout of 1.4 million tonnes in 2021-22.
Slower Chinese demand in the second half would leave heavy Canadian barley stocks and pressure barley prices down. Feed buyers may find cheaper barley later in the year.
