The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says drought in the Upper Missouri River Basin has not yet disrupted navigation or grain barge movement. Heavy rains in the lower basin have kept river levels higher than normal, and the Corps is providing less-than-full navigation support based on its July 1 storage check.
Reduced river support is a watch item for barge freight costs if the lower basin dries out in the fall, which could raise transport costs for Midwest grain and feed shipments.
