Guyana's National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) warned farmers that Triple Super Phosphate distributed by Cyril Singh Agricultural Enterprise tested well below its declared 47% concentration. Three analyses from May and June 2021 found 20%, 19% and 16%.
NAREI said it is working with the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals (Control) Board to ensure future imports match declared concentrations.
The shortfall is a local quality problem that could cut yields and paddy quality for farmers who used the product. It is unlikely to move global phosphate prices.
