Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson sued 19 chicken producers, including Tyson, Pilgrim's Pride and Sanderson Farms, alleging a conspiracy to inflate chicken prices through rigged contracts and coordinated supply cuts. Agri Stats is also named for sharing pricing data, and the state seeks restitution and civil penalties.
The lawsuit could pressure producers to change supply or pricing behaviour, but it is a state action and its direct effect on chicken and feed demand is uncertain.
