France's Ministry of Agriculture has asked the national health agency for a new opinion on allowing processed animal protein (meat-and-bone meal) back into feed for poultry and pigs. The EU rule permitting it was published in August and was due to take effect in September, but France abstained and the situation remains unresolved.
If poultry and pig feed can again use animal protein meals, supply of competing protein ingredients like soybean meal could loosen, though France's pending decision leaves near-term EU availability uncertain.
