The ICE Canola Board Margin Index closed Sept. 30 with Canadian-dollar crush margins for November 2021 contracts marked N/A, while later deferred contracts showed positive crush margins.
The index is calculated from soybean oil and meal futures less canola futures, weighted 40% oil and 60% meal. Margins have moved sharply higher over the past month.
Positive crush margins in deferred months encourage canola processing and meal output, which can weigh on meal prices over time. Near-term margin weakness points to tighter processing economics.
