USDA's September acreage report shows US planted sunflower area down 26% from 2020 to 1.27 million acres. Global 2021-22 sunflower production is projected at 57 million tonnes, up about 14%, mainly on larger crops in Russia, Ukraine and the EU.
Lower US acreage tightens domestic supply, while the larger global crop adds meal and oil supply, which together leave the price effect mixed but modestly bearish for world sunflower meal.
