U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said he was reassured by his Mexican counterpart that Mexico's phased ban on GM corn cultivation will not limit its imports of GE corn. Mexico is phasing out GM corn for human consumption by 2024.
Vilsack made the comments on October 20 near Ankeny, Iowa.
Mexico is the largest buyer of U.S. corn, so keeping import access intact supports corn export demand and prices. Uncertainty over the ban had weighed on farmer sentiment.
After 729 past bullish trade events, Corn moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (56% higher; middle half -1.1% to +1.8%), and +0.5% over 20.
