Stanford researchers publish a Nature Sustainability analysis showing methane-derived bacterial protein can be produced at costs below conventional fishmeal for some US methane sources. The study says cost reductions could allow it to meet all global fishmeal demand.
The approach could eventually add substantial protein supply that competes with fishmeal, but it is not commercially available yet and does not move current prices.
