Statistics Canada estimates average barley yields at 43.6 bushels per acre, down 38% from 2020 and the lowest since 2002. Saskatchewan was hit hardest, and Alberta's provincial estimate is lower than StatCan's, so the final national figure may fall in December.
A crop that is roughly 40% smaller than last year sharply reduces exportable barley supply and supports prices for feed and malt buyers.
