Container shortages have sharply raised the cost of shipping Indian rice, with container rates reportedly rising to $7,000-$10,000 from $3,000-$4,000. Transit times to the US have also lengthened from about 90 days to about 150 days, although rice prices are easing as other Asian suppliers return to market.
Higher freight and longer transit times raise landed costs and limit Indian rice export competitiveness. Easing global rice prices and returning Thai and Vietnamese supply offset some of this support.
After 14 past neutral logistics events, RICE moved a median -1.3% over 5 sessions (36% higher; middle half -3.6% to +0.7%), and +1.6% over 20.
