Peru's Ministry of Production announced that the second anchovy season will start on November 22, 2021, with a quota of 2.047 million tons. That is 26% below the 2020 second-season maximum allowable catch of 2.78 million tons.
The lower quota reduces the anchoveta catch available for fishmeal and fish oil, which tightens supply and supports fishmeal prices.
