Peru's Ministry of Production approved the start of the second 2021 anchovy fishing season in the north-central zone, with a catch quota of 2,047,000 metric tons. The quota follows IMARPE's recommendation, based on an estimated biomass of about 7 million tons.
An exploratory fishing trip starting November 15 for seven days will precede the season opening.
A quota about 26% below the 2020 second season limits Peruvian anchovy landings, which tightens fishmeal supply for aquafeed buyers and tends to support fishmeal prices.
