European malting barley supply is reported to be about 30% below normal after a rainy summer delayed and damaged the crop, with EU malting barley output estimated at 9.9 million tons for 2021 versus 14.0 million in 2020. Dryness also hurt Canadian and US crops, and small, germinated grains reduce usable volume.
Sharply lower barley volume and quality across major exporters tightens global feed and malt supply, supporting barley prices.
