Feed barley purchase prices in Ukraine are rising amid tight supplies and lower world production, now about $20/ton above feed corn though still below feed wheat. Ukraine has exported 5 million tons of barley so far in 2021/22, 36% faster than last year, and its export forecast was raised to 5.6-6 million tons.
Russian barley output fell to 19 million tons, and USDA cut its world barley production estimate.
Tighter barley supplies and a higher price premium over corn make barley less competitive in feed rations, supporting barley and encouraging substitution toward corn.
