Banco de la República authorised a conditional direct purchase of US$2bn in foreign currency from Colombia's national government, to be executed during the remainder of 2026 at the TRM on the transaction date. The board held the policy rate at 12.25% by four votes to three, with the dissenters preferring a 25-basis-point hike.
The purchase supports reserve accumulation and is not a spot-market intervention, so its direct effect on peso-dollar pricing is limited. Holding rates while a minority favoured tightening signals caution on inflation and external financing risk.
