French authorities ordered the culling of poultry and waterfowl in parts of the southwest, the centre of France's foie gras industry, to contain bird flu. The order follows an earlier outbreak that killed about 3.5 million birds, mainly ducks, between autumn 2020 and spring 2021.
Culls reduce domestic poultry and duck supply in France and tighten the European poultry market, which can support demand for substitute meats and feed. The effect on feed commodity prices is small.
