A full planning application has been submitted for a major expansion of the Advanced Proteins factory in Cheddleton, on Green Belt land next to the existing site. The proposal includes a three-storey processing building that would convert inedible animal bones into food-grade products by heat treatment.
The application follows a council ruling that no Environmental Impact Assessment was required.
Diverting inedible bones into food-grade products would reduce the raw material for rendering, but the project is at planning stage and its price impact is small.
