Dawn Meats and Dunbia are adopting Elemental's protein and fat recovery technology, which the company says can capture up to 15% more human food product per carcass. The process extracts proteins and fats from bones and trimmings that would otherwise go to renderers, and turns other inedible material into fertiliser.
The technology is also meant to cut supply-chain greenhouse gas emissions.
Recovering more food product from carcasses could reduce the volume of meat and bone meal and fats going to renderers, a small long-run tightening for feed ingredients.
