USDA data show global barley ending stocks falling to 16.6 million tonnes from 17 million a month earlier, with production about 1.5% below expectations at 145.7 million tonnes. Consumption is forecast at 150 million tonnes, mostly for animal feed, and China and the EU are key users.
Tightening ending stocks support barley prices, and EU feed barley in Rotterdam has already eased to about EUR 265 per tonne. Ongoing Chinese feed demand adds upward pressure on the market.
