Advanced Proteins submitted planning applications to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for an edible bone processing plant at Cheddleton. The facility would convert bones currently classed as Category 3 inedible by-products into bone chips, animal fat and processed animal protein, and create 30 jobs.
The company says no UK plant currently does this.
The project would shift some bone material from inedible rendering into food-grade channels, a small change to the animal by-product supply that is unlikely to move feed prices.
